4 sentenced to death, another 3 to life for murder in Barisal

A Jhalakathi court on Wednesday sentenced four accused to death and another three to life imprisonment for murdering a businessman of Bhandaria under Pirojpur district.
Other eight accused released from the allegation finding them not guilty.
S M Sulaiman, District and Session Judge of Jhalakathi announced this verdict under section 302/34 of penal code examining 20 witnesses and other documents.
This was ending of long 17-years of trial procedure in presence of 13 accused and rest two accused died at prison before ending the trial, said Adv Abdul Mannan Rasul, District Public Prosecutor of Jhalakathi.
The death sentenced four accused were Shahid Shikdar, Nizam Shikdar, Dulal Shikdar and Badal Shikdar of Vitabaria village under Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur.
Three life-term accused were Harun Shikdar, Salam Shikdar and Minu Shikdar and each of them also fined Tk. 15 thousand or to serve more two years imprisonment.
Besides Md Firoz, Abdul Jalil, Kamal Hossain, Md Mintu, Gopal Chandra and Shelly Begum of the same village released from the charge founding not guilty.
The prosecution story in brief was the accused chopped to death local businessman Badal Sardar to death on September 1, 1998 because of old rivalry over properties in Vitabaria village under Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur district.
Zamal Sardar, brother of the victim, lodged a murder case in this connection against 15 accused with Bhandaria police station on next day and police submitted charge sheet against all accused on February 1999.
Later the case was transferred from Pirojpur to Jhalakathi District and Session Judge court in order of the High Court for the sake of free fair trial in 2003, court sources said.
