Four people were sent to jail on Sunday in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman with a mental disability in Homna upazila of Cumilla.
The four arrestees are Hasan, 27, Rassel, 20, Yousuf alias Badsha, 25, and Sohag, 16, of Homna upazila, said Abul Kayes Akand, officer-in-charge of Homna Police Station. All four were arrested from their homes after a case was filed against them with the station, he said.
They were sent to jail by Cumilla district court on Monday.
Fazlul Karim, senior assistant superintendent of Cumilla police, said both the victim and her husband are intellectually disabled. The four arrestees had raped the woman on December 29.
During primary interrogation, Hasan, one of the four accused, admitted that they gang raped the woman on the day. He also told police that he had raped her a few more times earlier.
Police learnt of the incident when the rapists had called for an arbitration over the matter yesterday.
Police intervened in the so-called arbitration, called the victim’s family to the police station and accepted the case against those involved.
Police later arrested all four involved, added the police official.
