4 `robbers` killed in gunfights

At least four suspected robbers were killed in separate gunfights with members of law enforcers in Dhaka and Faripdur districts early Thursday.
In Keraniganj, two suspected robbers were killed in a gunfight with police at Agrakhola area in Keraniganj of Dhaka district early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Mantajul, 30, and Sabuj, 28.Ferdous Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station, said, “On information that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery, a team of police conducted drive in the area around 4:00am on Thursday. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire at them, prompting an act of retaliation and thus a gunfight. The two were caught in the line of fire while the others managed to flee.”
Police recovered the bodies of Mantajul and Sabij and recovered two firearms and five rounds of bullet from the spot, the police official said.
In Faridpur, two alleged robbers were killed in a reported gunfight between two robber gangs over establishing supremacy at Pierpur in Sadar Upazila early Thursday. The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Nazim Uddin, OC of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, said, “Tipped off on information that two gangs were exchanging gunfire in bypass road area, a team of police went to the spot and fired seven rounds of bullets to quell the situation around 1:00am. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers fled the scene.”
Later, police arrested two robbers seriously wounded with bullets and took them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead, the police official said.
Police also recovered one foreign pistol, two rounds of bullets and eight hand bombs from the spot.
Earlier on November 25, six suspected robbers were killed in separate gunfights in Pabna and Faridpur districts.
