The members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police in a drive arrested at least four robbers in the city’s Khilgaon area on Friday night.
The detained persons are Khorshed Alam alias Sohel, 34, Rakibul Islam alias Swapan, 26, Harun-Ar-Rashid alias Arman, 42, and Mohammad Sumon, 21.
They also seized three foreign made pistols, three magazines, two machetes, and few swords.
At least five police members were injured during the drive. They are Assistant Police Commissioner Md Ruhul Amin Sarkar, Inspector Muhammad Alimuzzaman, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahbubur Rahman, ASI Toafzzal Hossain and Constable Abdul Latif, police said.
A team of police raided a house at Nandipara under Khilgaon Police Station based on an information and arrested the miscreants when they were trying to commit dacoity in the house at night, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relation) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The robbers fired targeting the cops who replied in self-defense with guns, the police official said.
At one stage, the detective men succeeded in arresting them with the arms in the area, the DC said.
The injured police men were admitted to the Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital, he said. A case was filed with the Khilgaon Police Station, the DC said.
