4 rental power plants’ deals get extension

UNB, Dhaka :The Cabinet Purchase Committee on Wednesday approved 12 proposals, including the extension of four gas-fired rental power plants’ deals with the government.The meeting, chaired by Finance Minister AMA Muhith, gave the go-ahead to the proposals placed by different ministries and divisions.As per the proposals, each of 145 MW Ghorasal and 50 MW Fenchuganj plants received 3 years’ extension while 85 MW Brahmanbari and 95 MW Ashuganj plant each got one year’s extension in their agreements with the state-owned Power Development Boards (PDB).Of the four rental plants, private firm Energy Prima has been operating the 50MW Fenchuganj plant while Agreeko International the remaining three plants. PDB has been purchasing electricity from them at different tariffs.Cabinet Division’s additional secretary Mostafizur Rahman who briefed reporters about the meeting’s outcomes, said under the extended deals, the four plants will now sell their electricity to the PDB at Tk 3.26 per kilowatt hour (each unit) which is lower than the previous rate.Earlier, 145MW Ghorasal plant was selling power at Tk 4.75 per kWh (each unit), while 50 MW Fenchuiganj’s tariff was Tk 4.65 per unit, the tariff 85 MW B’Baria and 95 MW Ashuganj plants’ tariff was Tk 4.80 per unit.
