Some four poachers were arrested along with 25 kgs venison of spotted deer of Sundarban forest by the police from Baillar Mor of Holbunia area under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district at Monday night (at about 11 pm), according to a delayed report received here. The arrested poachers are Japotos Mandol (36), Titu Mandol (27), Nazmul Mallik (49) and Animesh Mandol (38). They hail from Khulna and Gopalganj districts,
Md. Jahangir Alam, 2nd Officer of Mongla PS told, acting on secret information that the venison smugglers (poachers) after procuring the venison from the forest are going else where by 2 motor cycles through the route from Baudhyamari Bazar to Baillar Mor area of Holdibunia under Chandpai Union and when the smugglers reached there a police squad led by ASI Sadhan Biswas and ASI Amit who were waiting in ambush earlier arrested them and recovered the venison (25 kgs) and 2 motor cycles from them. Later Md. Jahangir Alam, 2nd Officer of Mongla PS registered a case with the PS against the smugglers on the charge of illegal intrusion in the forest, hunting deer and smuggling the venison under Forest Act of 1927 (amended in the year 2000) as the plaintiff.
