Four members of a family died and another fell sick after consuming poisonous Patka fish in the city’s Dholaipar area on Monday night and Tuesday respectively.
The deceased have been identified as Robin, 10, his brother Rummon, 12, their uncles Shaheen, 25, and Suja, 22.
Quoting the locals, Kadamtali Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman said that Farida Akhter, a member of the victimized family, bought some pices of Patka fish in the market. All the family members fell sick after eating the cooked fish at night.
The police official said that locals took the five members of the family to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctor declared Robin, Rummon and Shaheen dead around 11:15pm on Monday. Suja breathed his last at 3:35 am on Tuesday.
Another family member Farida Akhter is undergoing treatment at DMCH, he said.
