Dengue on down trend: 4 more die, 634 hospitalised

Four more dengue patients reportedly died in Barishal, Khulna and Jashore and about 634 patients were hospitalized amid the downfall trend in last 24 hours.
Among them, 221 patients were admitted in different hospitals and clinics in the capital and 413 in district level hospitals.
The deceased are Farhad Hossain Jihad, 14, from Muladi upazila of Barishal; Zahida Begum, 35, from Manirampur upazila of Jashore; and Rahima Begum, 50, from Satkhira’s Tala upazila.
In Barishal, Jihad, a student of class VII of Adarsha High School, was admitted to Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) around 10:00pm on Tuesday with dengue fever and died around 1:30pm Wednesday, said Dr Bakir Hossain, director of the hospital.
The patient was sent to the SBMCH from local health complex in a critical condition last night, Dr Bakir said.
Basudev Kumar Das, Deputy Director of Barishal Divisional Office of Health Directorate, said that 67 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in different public and private hospitals in six districts of Barishal division.
In Jashore, Zahida Begum, 35, from Hanuar village in Manirampur upazila,
 died at Jashore General Hospital around 6:00am on Wednesday.
She was admitted to the hospital with dengue fever on Monday.
Since her admission, Zahida’s condition was serious, said Dr Arif Ahmed, Resident Medical Officer of the hospital.
She was referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital on Tuesday but it was not done, the doctor said.
In Khulna, Rahima Begum, 50, wife of Rafiqul Islam, a resident of village Azrail in Satkhira’s Tala upazila, passed away at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) around 11:30pm last night.
Dr Sailendranath Biswas, Resident Medical Officer of the KMCH, said Rahima was hospitalised on Monday with dengue.
So far, 11 people have died of dengue in the district, according to data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said, the number of patients who took treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 3,165.
A total of 60 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh so far this year, according to their own collected data.
However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be 145, so far.
As many as 1,434 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,731 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.
As many as 78,617 people had been affected by dengue so far this year in the worst outbreak across the country.
Among those admitted, a total of 75,225 were released from hospitals and clinics after treatment.
