4 killed in road crashes near HSIA

Four persons were killed and a dozen others were injured as a bus ran over them on the Airport Road in the city on Wednesday morning.
Tajuddin Ahmed(42) and Sabur Khan (25) were killed on the spot while Abdul Quddus Chowdhury(55) and Bilkis Begum (35) succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital around 12 PM, Jashim, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Airport Police Station told the New Nation.
The Abdullapur-bound bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan from Mirpur crashed on the footpath near the intersection in front of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:30am, Officer-in-Charge of Airpor Police station Md Shah Alam said.
The driver of the bus lost control over the steering, he said.
Abdul Quddus is an employee of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while Bilkis works as a maid at a hotel and Tajuiddin is a cloth trader of China market, Nababbari.
Police seized the bus but its driver managed to escape from the spot, police said. The bodies have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy, he said.
Tajuddin of village Gopalpur under Gopalganj district was running his business at Ahsan Manjil. He met the accident while crossing the road, Faruk Mia, a nephew of the victim said. He is survived by three sons and wife.
Md Pervez, a hawker, who is another witness of the accident told the media that the bus first dashed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and lost its control and then it crashed against the roadside footpath leaving two persons killed on the spot and injured several others. The bus was running recklessly at a speed of 60-70 kilometres even after losing control over the steering, another witness said.
