Four people, including the autorickshaw driver, were killed and two others injured when a locomotive train hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur district.
The injured were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, reports our Rangpur Correspondent quoting Chairman of Annadanagar Union Parishad Aminul Islam.
According to locals, a light engine, heading from Parbatipur to Bonarpara, hit the three-wheeler at the level-crossing under Annadanagar Railway Station area around 1:00pm, leaving two auto-rickshaw passengers dead
on the spot and four others injured. Later, two other passengers died on the way to hospital.
The identities of the dead and injured persons could not be known immediately.
Of the injured, two succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital, said Sub-Inspector Ziaur Rahman of Pirgachha Police Station.
Police are yet to identify the victims, he said, adding the bodies were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue.
