Four workers died after sand-laden cargo vessel ‘Tahmina Express’ sank in the Buriganga River in Fatulla area of Narayanganj district early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Lutfar Rahman, 39, from Kandebpur area under Nalchhiti upazila in Jhalakathi, Mostafa, 55, from Chasherkathi area in Kaukhali upazila, Babu, 18, from Chhoto Arji in Pirojpur and Mohibullah, 60, from Iluhar in Banaripara upazila of Barishal, said Shah Zaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Keraniganj Police Station.
 “Police have kept the bodies at Keraniganj Police Station,” he said.
The sand-laden cargo, waiting for repair work at the dockyard, sank around 3:00am near Afaz Dockyard, leaving its four staff dead, according to him.
Quoting the master of the affected vessel, Fatullah Fire Service Senior Station Officer Mohammad Kajol Miah said, “The sand-laden cargo, waiting for repair work at the dockyard, sank anytime after 3.00am on Friday, leaving four staff dead. The master of the vessel and another person were rescued from the scene.”
