As the municipal election has been knocking the door, the aspirants of mayoral positions in four municipalities, out of six have been passing their hard and busy time in the fields.
The municipal election in Kotchandpur, Moheshpur, Sailkupa and Harinakundu was scheduled for December 30, while the election in Kaliganj could not be held due to some troubles with area selection and new voter enrollment. Duration of election for Jhenaidah municipality yet to be over.
The campaign went in momentum when the aspirants of the political parties, especially, the ruling Awami League had sanctioned their party symbol Boat (Nauka in Bangla) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for the shief of paddy (Dhanershish in Bangla) as the election symbols for their respective candidates.
The aspirants of four municipalities among six in Jhenidah are passing very busy time after getting symbols from ruling party Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
A total 24,161 voters, of them 12,065 male and 12,106 female are expected to cast their franchise on December 30 in Kotchandpur, while a total of 25,286 voters among which 12,497 male and 12,789 female in Sailkupa municipality.
In Harinakundu municipality, a total of 14,845 voters among which 7,364 male and 7,481 female, while in Moheshpur a total of 19,433 voters among which 9,726 are male and remaining 9,707 female are going to cast their votes to elect their mayor, said a source related to district election office in Jhenaidah..
According to the sources, as many as 14 mayor aspirants, 136 councilor candidates and 45 candidates for women reserved seats had submitted their nomination papers to contest the elections to four municipalities in Jhenidah district.
When this correspondent had visited different areas of the municipalities, had witnessed that the aspirants along with their close associates have been visiting the houses of the voters and showing humble submission before them.
