Four persons, including two women, received severe burn injuries in an explosion at a six-storey house of Central Road area in the city on Saturday.
Police said Fazlur Rahman, 45, Panna Akhtar, 28, and Delwar Hossain, 26 and housemaid Rozina Begum, 35, were burnt severely in the explosion at about 7:45 am. They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
We are investigating the incident. In preliminary investigation, we assumed that the reason behind the explosion might be formation of gas in the air-tight store room of the house, which blasted with a big bang just after came in touch of fire,” said Officer-in Charge of Kalabagan police station Md Iqbal said.
“Fazlur Rahman, who is an official of a developing company and his two nieces were seriously injured,” he said.
Of them, Panna’s condition was serious as she sustained 95 per cent burn injuries in her body, resident surgeon of the burn unit at the hospital Partha Shankar Pal said.
Besides, Fazlur Rahman has 28 per cent burns in his body, and Delwar sustained 4 per cent burn injuries.
Md Sarwar Alam , Additional Deputy Commissioner of a bomb disposal unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said a team of bomb disposal unit went to the spot to unearth the cause of the explosion.
