4 hurt while making bombs

At least four members of a family received burn injuries in a cocktail explosion at a residence at Dhakeshwary in the city’s Lalbagh area on Wednesday afternoon.
Of the injured, the hand of Mahbubur Rahman Bappi blew off from the wrist down due to impact of massive blast.
Police said that Bappi, 25, is the General Secretary of the Jatiyatabad Chhatra Dal (JCD), New Market thana unit.
Other injured were identified as, Bappi’s sister Jhumur, 22, Jhumur’s son Md Ripon, 6 and daughter Happy Akther, 14, a class eight student of Azimpur Girls School and College.
The injured were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) burnt unit. Criticall injured Bappi will be sent to National Institute of Ophthalmology as he received serious wounds in the eyes.
After visiting the spot, Lalbagh Police Zone’s Deputy Commissioner Md Mofizuddin claimed that the explosion occurred when they were making bombs in the residence.
“The incident took place around 3:00pm when someone was trying to making bomb,” the DC said.
A team of Bomb Disposal Unit of DMP rushed to the spot and collected some evidences. They were examining the evidences in the forensic lab to know thr category of the explosives, police said.  
Meanwhile, injured Jhumur said that the incident took place when she was cooking at the kitchen room. At one stage, a tube light exploded in the room suddenly while the children were having food, leaving all of them injured.
She also claimed that it was an explosion of a heater.
