At least four persons, including a local Swechchhasebak League leader, received serious injuries in a bomb blast at a protest rally of the ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance in the city’s Hazaribagh area on Wednesday.
Local MP Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh was on the dais to attend the rally when the incident took place. The rally was organised at Hazaribagh Park in the afternoon to condemn the violence during blockade and hartal enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
The injured have been identified as Vice-President of Swechchhasebak League Ward No.22 unit Mukhtar Hossain, 28, Reaz Ahmed, 40, and Md Selim. They have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with splinter injuries.
Hospital sources said that Mukhtar suffered splinter injuries in his head and hand, while Selim in his abdomen
Officer-in-Charge of Hazaribagh thana Moinul Islam said that two hand bombs were exploded near the sitting arrangement for journalists.
“We are examining the reason behind the blasts,” the OC said.
