Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) picked up four persons and recovered large number of hand bombs and explosives from a complex of Halishahar residential area under Halishahar thana in the port city of Chittagong on Friday night.
RAB-7 commander Colonel Miftah Uddin Ahmed said that a team of RAB rounded up four suspected militants, including a female, and recovered 150 kilogrammes of high power explosive materials, 76 hand bombs, cocktails and hand grenades, 24 bullets and training equipment from BA Mansion of Golden Complex area.
RAB Director General Benzir Ahmed visited Halishahar on Saturday afternoon, RAB sources said.
Benzir Ahmed said while briefing the journalists at Halishahar after arrest of suspected militants and recovery of explosives and firearms that the killing of innocent people and the throwing of petrol bombs into transports were inspiring the militants.
On February 22, RAB unearthed a militants’ training camp at Banshkhali upazila in Chittagong district and arrested five persons along with huge number of firearms and training equipment
The RAB director general arrived in Chittagong on Saturday morning. He said that a quarter was trying to turn the country into a militant-prone state. When asked whether militants arrested from Banskhali had any link with IS and Al Qaeda, the RAB DG said they had been interrogated in this connection. Likewise, persons arrested from Halishahar would also be quizzed.
