Plain-clothes police in a drive arrested four alleged drug peddlers along with 40,000 Yaba tablets in the city’s
Badda area on Wednesday night.
The arrested were identified as Md Pavel Chowdhury, Faran Abdullah alias Falan, Hridoy Sarker alias Sarker Ashik and Mohammad Bahar.
Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), led by its Assistant Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman, launched the drive in the area around 8:10pm and arrested the four along with the
sex-stimulating tablets. Briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner (DB-East) Jahangir Hossain Matabbar said they had information that a group of drug dealers with a consignment of the contraband tablets was coming to Badda from Sayedabad by a private car.
Based on the information, a DB team took position at Merul Badda in the evening.
The detectives intercepted the car after it crossed Rampura Bridge and recovered the Yaba tablets after searching it, the DB DC said, adding that they also seized the private car.
