Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday arrested four persons for allegedly spreading rumour on social media over Padma Bridge construction.
The four were arrested from different districts at different times and handed over to police, said Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, Senior Assistant Director, Legal and Media Wing of the elite force.
The arrestees are Shahidul Islam, 25, hailed from Narail, Arman Hosen, 20, from Chattogram, Md Faruk, 50, from Moulvibazar, and Hayatunnabi, 31, from Cumilla.
Separate cases have been filed against the arrested men, the RAB official said.
The arrest was made three days after the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges urged the country people not to pay heed to the rumour about the need for a human sacrifice, mainly head and blood, for the Padma Bridge project.
On July 9, the ministry in a notice urged the people4 of the country not to pay heed to the rumour.
The ministry said it has noticed that a certain group is spreading propaganda on social media. “It’s a rumour. Spreading such rumour is a criminal offence,” it said.
