A trial tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced four persons to life term imprisonment convicting them in Jamil murder case in the district.
Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal Shirin Kabita Akhter pronounced the verdict in presence of them in the dock, a court official said.
The convicts were identified as Moznu Sheikh, Rabiul Islam, Tota Mian and Abdur Rashid. The court also fined them Taka 20,000 each in its verdict.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convicts in collaboration with each other kidnapped Jamil Akhter, 37, son of Younus Ali of Kathalia village under Charghat Upazila, and killed him on November 17, 2009. Later local people found his body in a nearby ditch on the following day.
Subsequently, father of the victim had lodged a case with Charghat Police Station. Upon completion of investigation, police pressed charge sheet accusing the four persons on July 31, 2010.
After examining the recorded depositions of 15 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidences, the court pronounced the verdict yesterday.
Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque Babu conducted the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Hamidul Haque defended the accused.
