4 get life-term for possessing drug in Khulna

A tribunal here on Tuesday sentenced four people to life term imprisonment in a case filed for possessing drug.
The convicts are Mohsin Sardar, son of Mozammel Sardar, Rabiul Islam, son of Abdul Malek in Debhata upazila of the district, Tayab Ali Sheikh, son of Intaz Sheikh, and Niamul Bihara, son of Idrish Bihar of Dakhkhin Bagmara of Rupsha upazila in the same district.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, a team of Narcotics Control Department of Khunla zone in a drive arrested the four accused along with 158 bottles of Phensidyl from Rupsha ghat in the city on December 14, 2011.
Inspector of the department M Farhad Hossain filed a case against them.
On January 15, 2012, Farhad Hossain, also investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge-sheet against them to a court.
After examining witnesses and documents, Judge of Special Tribunal on Public Safety SM Solaiman handed down the verdict.
Besides, another Khulna court sentenced a man, Sekender Bishwas, 60, to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and his wife Reba Begum, 45, and son Rejaul Bishwas, 19, to 5 years in a case over drug trading in 2014.
The three convicts were also fined Tk 5,000 each, otherwise, they will have to suffer three months more jail.
Khulna Metropolitan Session Judge Arup Kumar Goswami handed down the verdict.
