Four fishermen went missing as a fishing trawler capsized in the Teknaf estuary near the St Martin Island after it was hit by a tourist vessel on Friday afternoon. Owner of the fishing trawler, M Hossain, a resident of Mestri Para in the Shahpurir Island in the estuary, said he had heard from witnesses that the trawler sank as Teknaf-bound tourist vessel, ‘Keari Sindabad’, from the St Martin Island hit it in the mouth of the river at the Bay of Bengal around 3:30pm, leaving four fishermen of the trawler missing. UNB could not contact the in-charge of the tourist vessel, Shah Alam, despite repeated attempts over phone. Officer-in-charge of Taknaf Police Station Ataur Rahman said the police have been informed about the incident and will take necessary steps in this regard. However, no rescue operation was launched till filing of this report at the news desk. – UNB, Dhaka.
