At least four people including two children were trapped inside and feared dead after a girder of the under construction Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project fell on a private car in the city’s Uttara area on Monday afternoon, said police.
Two other occupants of the car could got out with serious injuries and were rushed to a local hospital, said police. They were identified as Hridoy, 26, and Ria Moni, 21.
Four occupants of the car- Rubel, 50, Jhorna, 28, and the two children Jannat, 6, and Jakaria, 2 – got trapped inside the mangled car and rescuers feared they are unlikely to survive, according to police official involved in rescue operation.
“Unless the four stuck inside the car are rescued it cannot be confirmed whether they are dead or alive,” said another policeman.
The accident occurred around 4:30 pm when the girder of the Gazipur Expressway fell on the car when it was being moved by a crane in front of Gazipur Paradise Tower, he added.
Fire fighters are conducting an operation to rescue the victims from the accident-hit car, said the inspector.
