Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a special drive has arrested four people from the city’s Gabtoli area on the charge of kidnapping a man identifying themselves as DB personnel.
The arrestees are Md Mamun Mandal, Ali, Md Sumon Sheikh alias Amir Hossain and Ahmed. Additional Commissioner of DB AKM Hafeez Akter at a press briefing held at DMP Media Centre on Thursday said acting on a tip-off, a zonal team of DB Motijheel division arrested them from Gabtoli area in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The DB personnel also recovered one private car, one pistol, one round of bullet, a toy pistol, one set of DB jackets, one walkie-talkie, and Tk15,000 in cash from their possessions.
He said the gang identifying themselves as DB personnel picked up one Md Mosharraf Hossain from Malibagh Chowdhurypara area while he was going home withdrawing Tk5 lakh from an ATM booth around 2:40pm on August 29.
Later, they pushed the victim out of a car at Sonargaon, Narayanganj district at 4:05 pm on the same day. On August 30, a case was filed with Rampura police station in this regard, Hafeez said.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed their involvement with the kidnapping.
“They have been involved with carjacking, robbery and kidnapping in and around Dhaka city for a long time,” the additional commissioner added.
