The Department of Environment (DoE) on Thursday fined four factories a total of Tk 1.03 crore for harming environment and ecology in Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj.
The DoE summoned the authorities of the three dyeing factories and one food and beverage factory to its Dhaka headquarters, said DoE press release. Following hearings, DoE director (Monitoring and Enforcement) AKM Mizanur Rahman fined them for polluting environment.
Three units of a dyeing factory at Chandra in
Kaliakair of Gazipur were penalised Tk 54 lakh, while a food and beverage factory at Shimrail in Sidwirganj of Narayanganj fined Tk five lakh for dumping untreated chemical effluents.
Besides, two dyeing factories at Uttar Begunbari and Old FDC road in Tejgaon Industrial Area in the capital were penalised Tk 23 lakh and Tk 21 lakh respectively for running the factories without environmental clearance and setting up Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs).
