At least four addicts reportedly died by taking excessive liquor (wine) during the Durga Puja celebrations in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah district on Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Bikash Biswas Bappy, 35, Munna Das, 32, Shuvankar Mitra alias Tito Karmaker, 45, and Pintu Das, 30. All were inhabitants of Kaliganj upazila, said Md Yunus Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC)
of Kaliganj Police Station.
Some people, including Bikash, Munna, Tito and Pintu fell sick after galloping excessive liquor in Kotchandpur area on Thursday night. Later they were taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex where Bappy died. Munna, Tito and Pintu were shifted to Jashore Sadar Hospital as their conditions deteriorated, but they died there on Friday night, the police official said.
Besides, Tapan Dash and Nirmal Chandra were still undergoing treatment in crital condition at the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, the OC said.
We have arranged several meeting with al Puja celebration committees and alerted about taking drug ahead of idols immersion, he said.
