4 DB men closed in Gazipur

Four Detective Branch (DB) officers have been withdrawn in Gazipur for threatening to kill a puffed-rice factory owner in crossfire.
Superintendent of Police of Gazipur M Harun-or-Rashid took the action against sub-inspectors Khairul Islam, Mithu Sheikh and M Kibria, and assistant sub-inspector M Mahbub for conducting a drive at a puffed-rice factory at Mawna Chourasta without any allegation, said officer-in-charge of district DB M Amir Hossain
They were closed to the district police lines on Wednesday night, he said.
The district police also
formed a three-member probe panel, led by Addition Police Super Golam Sabur, to look into the matter, the SP said, adding that departmental action will be taken against them if the allegation is proved.
Abul Kalam, owner of Al-Amin Food Factory at Mawna Chourasta, alleged that some DB men demanded Tk 7 lakh in bribe from him few days back bringing an allegation of mixing fertiliser while making puffed rice.
The DB personnel also threatened to file a case against him and kill him in crossfire if he failed to pay the money, Kalam added.
Later, he gave Tk 2 lakh to the DB men, he said.
