A 4-day expo on garments and textile machineries and other accessories in the production process got underway Thursday in the city`s International Convention City, Bashundhara (ICCB).
More than a hundred local and foreign firms are participating in the fair to showcase their latest products and services for the country`s readymade garments (RMG) and textile industries.
Inaugurating the expo, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said that the government has been extending its full support to grow the country`s business prospects. As a result, the contribution of the industries sector, especially textiles and garments, has witnessed substantial growth in the last few years.
Turning to politics, he criticised the opposition BNP centring its demand for deferring the general election, noting that the Election Commission has already deferred the polls for a week responding to their demand.
“But again they are making the same demand. But we are not in agreement with such demand. The Election Commission will take the final decision in this regard,” he said.
