Four police personnel of Jaintapur police station have been suspended over the death of an accused in police custody.
Additional Police Super (Media) of Sylhet police Sugyan Chakma said the policemen- Sub Inspector Shafiqur Rahman, assistant
sub-inspector Joynal Abedin, two constables-Akkas Ali and Nantu Chakma-were suspended on Thursday for negligence of duty. Earlier on May 19, Nazrul Islam Babu, an accused of a case filed under the Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act, died in police custody.
Police claimed that Nazrul committed suicide. Later, Nazrul’s mother Rokeya Begum filed a case accusing 11 people including Md Safiul Kabir, officer-in-charge of the police station.
