4 cops injured in Tangail police van attack: 5 held

Four police members were injured as miscreants attacked a patrolling police van by felling tree on the Sakhipur-Sagordighi Road when police personnel were returning after arresting an accused at Borochowna in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail district early Wednesday.
The injured were identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Doyal Chandra Sarkar, SI Ayub Hossain Khan, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Foyez Uddin, and constable Shafiqul Islam.
The four injured policemen were admitted to the Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex.
The law enforcers have arrested five persons in
 connection with the incident. They are: Sakhipur upazila Jubo Dal President Faizul Haque Sachchu, former councillor Hatem Ali Shikder, BNP Municipal Ward No 5 President Natub Alim, BNP activists Abdul Malek and Hasan Ali, said Sakhipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amir Hossain.
“A gang of 50-60 criminals equipped with sticks attacked a police van by felling tree when it was returned to police station after detaining an accused from a house at Borochowna at around 12:30am. They vandalised the cops van, leaving four policemen wounded.”
Hearing the news, patrol teams of different places of the upazila started firing to control the situation, the police official said.
The KSJL-BNP activists-led by Lal Miah Chairman- blocked the roads and detonated some crude bombs when police returned after the arrest of accused in the case.
On December 16, a Chhatra League leader filed a case against Kalia Union Parishad former chairman Abdul Halim Sarkar.
