Four shipbreaking yard workers were burnt in an explosion at a shipyard at Shitalpur in Sitakunda. upzila in the district . The accident took place around 10 am on Saturday (December 25)The condition of the two burnt people is critical. All of them were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
It is learned that the workers of Jamuna Ship Breakers Yard suddenly caught fire while cutting the ship. Burnt are Md. Sohail Rana (25) Of Gobindaspur police station in Natore, Bogra’s Adamdighi Police Station Zahid Hasan (26), Rangpur Pirganj Police Station, Mizanur Rahman Milon (40) and Sundarganj’s Firoz (24).
Nazmul Ahsan, a firefighter at Kumira Fire Station, said three of our teams arrived at the scene after receiving news of the incident. The shipyard authorities themselves carried out the rescue operation.
