A woman and her three grandchildren were burned to death as her son-in-law allegedly set their house afire at Dumudia village in sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Furia Begum,65, her daughter Rony Begum’s two children- Tamim,8 and Tanima,5, Aminur Sardar,13, son of Furia’s another daughter.
Police and witnesses said, Furia Begum’s son-in-law Azad Mollah set their house ablaze by pouring petrol and locked the door of the house when they were asleep at around 11 pm.
Three people died inside the house as they could not come out from the burning house.
Local people rescued Tanima and her aunt Roni Begum after breaking the window of the house and rushed them to sadar hospital where Tanima succumbed to her injuries around 2 am Sunday.
Azad Mollah’s wife Sharifa Begum said she had been living with her two children-Sabbir and Bappi-in her father’s house following a family feud.
She alleged that Azad took away his two children tactfully two days back and threatened her mother over mobile phone on Saturday evening that he would kill them by setting their house afire.
Police and senior officials of local administration visited the spot. Police said they have stated drive to arrest Azad Mollah.
