4 baby lifters held in city

Staff Reporter :A team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday arrested four women on charge of stealing a two-week old baby from the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) under Lalbagh Police Station in the capital two weeks ago.The arrested women had been identified as Jahanara Begum, Farida Akhter, Ferdousi Begum and Rozina Akhter. The rescued baby had been admitted into the Ward No. 211 of the DMCH instantly, police said.Quoting the RAB officials, the DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge and Sub-Inspector (SI) Mozammel Haque said that a team of the RAB-3 led by Major Kamran conducted a drive in the Lalbagh area and picked up them. They also rescued the newborn baby who was stolen at least two weeks ago from the DMCH.He said that the women were held in Lalbagh area at the time of selling the infant. Legal action would be taken against them in this connection, the police official said.
