Staff Reporter :Four persons, including three of the nine who suffered severe burns in the firebomb attack on a truck in Magura, succumbed to their injuries at hospital on Sunday, the 76th day of nationwide blockade sponsored by BNP and its allies.Roushan Ali, 36, breathed his last around 2:30am as he was being taken to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital [DMCH] by an ambulance, sources said.Shakil Ahmed, 32, met the same fate with 65 percent burn injuries at the DMCH around 12:00pm. Besides, the third victim of the Magura arson attack Matin Biswas died at the hospital around 4:50pm.Police said seven other victims were undergoing treatment at the burn unit of the hospital. They were injured when miscreants hurled petrol bomb at the truck on Magura-Jessore highway Saturday evening, our Magura correspondent reported.A trucker named Sharif Khandar, 40, who sustained burns in a firebomb attack in Chandpur on March 19, died around 3:20pm at DMCH. The deceased was the son of late Shahabuddin of Jhikargachha of Jessore.On March 18, the truck driver Sharif Khandker and three other people were injured as miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a Khulna-bound goods-laden truck coming from Chittagong at Chandra in Chandpur.Meanwhile, the first day of fresh spell of 72-hour hartal passed off yesterday without any major incident on the day. Miscreants torched a BRTC double-decker bus at Farmgate in the city yesterday evening. However, no casualty was reported. The BNP-led 20 party alliance on Saturday called shutdown from 6:00am Sunday to 6:00am Wednesday demanding release of its leaders and activists, including joint secretary general Salah Uddin Ahmed and wholesale arrests.About eight to nine cocktails have been blasted at Dainik Bangla intersection in the capital yesterday evening. The blasts occurred at around 7.15pm in the area.Officer-in- Charge (OC) of Motijheel police station Proloy Kumar Shaha said. One sergeant named Arif received injuries in the incidents, says the OC.The OC also said, “`We are trying to detain the miscreants, in this connection.”In the city, a large number of commuter buses and private cars were seen plying with the passage of time. Rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaws took over city streets.Additional policemen were deployed in the key points of the city to avert any untoward incident.Miscreants torched a university commuting bus at the bus pool site on Jahangirnagar University campus early Sunday, our JU correspondent reports.
