4 arrested, fake note manufacturing factory busted in city

Detective Branch of police busted a “fake currency manufacturing mini-factory” on Nurjahan Road in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Sunday night.
The team also detained four people – Humayun Kabir (47), Jamal Uddin (42) Taslima Akter (30) and Sukhi Akter (30) – during the raid on the second floor of the six-storey building. Confirming the matter, DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Walid Hossain on Monday said Humayun Kabir,
proprietor of the fake note factory, had been arrested six times by detectives and police and Rapid Action Battalion earlier, while Jamal is accused in two fake note-related cases.
Humayun hired Taslima and Sukhi at Tk 15,000 and Tk 10,000 per month to prepare special papers and glue and to cut the fake notes into size.
Kawsar, brother of Humayun who is also a fake note manufacturer, was arrested earlier and is now in jail. Taslima’s husband Saiful Islam was arrested by Rab in January and he is also in jail at present.
“The gang makes fake notes all over the year but they have become more active ahead of Durga Puja” Walid Hossain added.
Deputy Commissioner said during the raid, the detectives recovered two laptops, four printers, some note cutters, dies, holographic thread, ink of different colours and special papers and many other materials through which around Tk 4 crore fake notes can be manufactured.
They also seized fake notes worth Tk 49 lakh from the flat.
The gang used to sell bundles of fake notes at Tk 10,000 to retail and wholesale small traders at different districts under Chattogram, Barishal, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions.
M Mashiur Rahman Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) of police said, “With the above-mentioned materials, it was possible to make counterfeit notes of about taka four crore.”
