The government has taken initiative to make laws of inheritance for people of the third gender community. A draft law in this regard has been sent to the cabinet division for approval.
Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury disclosed the information at the inauguration ceremony of 20-Child Day care centre at the Bhumi Bhaban (Land Building) on Wednesday.
Bangladesh recognised transgender people as a separate gender in 2013.
“People regardless of their religious beliefs are enjoying the rights to inheritance of property in the country as per laws, but the people of the third gender had no rights. As a result, this people are leading very miserable life and they are deprived of getting share in property left by the deceased. The draft law has given the rights to third gender people to have share in properties,” Saifuzzaman said.
