The third founding anniversary of Barisal University observed with a festive mood on Saturday. The programmes of the day presided over by Prof. Dr. Harunor Rashid, vice-chancellor of the university, started in the morning at Barisal
Zila School premises, the temporary campus of BU and was inaugurated by industry minister Amir Hosen Amuas the chief guest. Advocate Shawkat Hosen Hiron and Advocate Talukdar Md. Yunus, AL lawmakers, Advocate Tipu Sultan, WP lawmaker, Md. Hanif, BU syndicate member, Md. Nurul Amin, divisional commissioner attended the programme as special guests. A rally later bought from the temporary BU campus and ended at its permanent campus at Karnakathi. A discussion at afternoon and cultural functions at night also held at the temporary campus of BU with VC on the chair. About 50 meritorious student of the university were awarded
scholarships to mark the day. The BU students on occasion of observing the Day said they have only 72 teachers for more than 2,700 students of 16 departments including Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Engineering, Soil and Environment Science, Botany and Crop Science, Economics, Political Science, Social Science, Public Administration, Bangla, English, Law, Management Studies, Marketing, Accounting and Information Systems , Finance and Banking. Speakers and participants however hoped that Barisal University would play vital roles in this coastal region most vulnerable to climate change affects by doing research works for facing, adopting and mitigating that issue.
