UNB, Dhaka :The governme1nt has decided to deploy 392 executive magistrates in 98 upazilas of 40 districts ahead of elections to the upazilas slated for February 19.The Ministry of Public Administration took the decision on Sunday following a request of the Election Commission to deploy four executive magistrates in each upazila.As per the Mobile Court Act 2009, the executive magistrate will be appointed to conduct mobile courts for maintaining law and order, curbing crimes and violation of polls code in the election areas.Of the four magistrates for each upazila, one magistrate will work for 18 days from February 3 when the deadline for withdrawal of candidature expires.The remaining three magistrates will be deployed in each upazila for four days from two days before the voting.The election to the posts of upazila chairman, vice chairman and reserved post of vice chairman or women in the upazilas will be held in the first phase upazila election.On January 19, the EC announced the first phase election schedule for the 102 upazilas. But, the commission later postponed the polls in four upazilas.The commission has a plan to arrange 4th upazila elections to nearly 480 out of the country’s 487 upazilas by June next in six phases. On January 23, the commission also declared the second phase election to 117 upazilas of 52 districts fixing voting on February 27.
