39 trafficked women rescued, 18 held

The Bangladeshi women are being trafficked to India and the Middle East countries with dreams of a better life. Most of them live at Mirpur Shah Paran slum in the capital.
According to RAB sources, the victims were sold in various countries including India and Middle East.
The RAB has received at least six stories of women trafficking within a week. and they arrested 18 brokers in one month.
Housemaid Hasina Begum lives in Kalshir Shah Paran slum in Mirpur. Her daughter Amena was missing since April.
Hasina alleged that brokers Iqbal and Sohag had trafficked her daughter Amena to India offering a job in a parlour.
Besides, In January, Iqbal and Sohag also sent a teenage girl of the slum to neighboring country India. Later, the family rescued her from India by contacting the brokers.
Victim’s family alleges that women from different parts of the country are gathered and sold in the forbidden villages of India.
Later they filed a case with Pallabi Police Station and also lodged a complaint with RAB-4. In the last one week, RAB-4 has received six allegations of trafficking women. Law enforcement said they were trafficked to India and the Middle East.
RAB-4 Captain Additional DIG Mozammel Haque told the New Nation that there are several active trafficking rings in the country. In the last one month, 18 brokers including Iqbal and Sohag have been arrested. And 39 victim women have also been rescued.
