39 taxpayers accorded reception

National Board of Revenue (NBR) has accorded a reception to 39 highest and long-term taxpayers in Sylhet on Wednesday marking the National Income Tax Week-2017. Similarly, awards were given to four ‘Kor Bahadur’ families for the first time.
On the occasion, Commissioner’s Office of Sylhet Tax Zone hosted a divisional level function Abul Mal Abdul Muhit complex in Sylhet with the main thrust of inspiring the taxpayers in paying more tax and creating new taxpayer.
A large number of taxpayers including members of the civil society, professional leaders and tax lawyers were present at the function.
 Sylhet Divisional commissioner D Najmanara Khanum addressed the ceremony as a chief guest.SMP Commissioner Gulam Kibria,SCCI President Khandaker Shiper Ahmed, MCCI President Hasin Ahmed Also spoke the function as special guests with Syed MD Abu Daud, Commissioner of Income Taxes, in the chair.
Sylhet Divisional commissioner D Najmanara Khanum underscored the need for creating mass awareness about more income tax collection in the greater interest of making the country economically self-reliance. He said many of the affordable people of the society are still afraid of income tax payment due to misconception and wrong counseling by frauds.
Many people earn higher incomes in urban and semi-urban areas and other places, but they do not pay taxes due to lack of awareness, he added. “We have no alternative to enhancing tax collection for successful implementation of the need-based development programs for overall development of the nation,” She opined.
Tax Commissioner Dr Ferdous Alam gave an outline of the tax collection scenario in the region and attributed that the number of taxpayers are being increased gradually, which is good sign for the nation.
