At least 34 dwelling houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Moriumnagar area under Rangunia upazila of the district on Tuesday night.
Fire brigade and police sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit from a dwelling house at 12-10 last night and it quickly engulfed the adjacent areas.
Four fire fighting engines extinguished the fire at around 2-30am.
Properties worth about TK eight lakh were burnt, fire service sources said.
Another reports adds: At least five dwelling houses were gutted in a fire at Farhadabad village under Hathazari upazila of the district on early Tuesday.
Fire service sources said, the fire which originated from a cooking oven in a house at Ishan Mohajon Bari in Farhadabad village around 3-15am quickly spread to the surrounding houses.
A unit of fire service from Hathazari station rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at about 4-15am, said Satyapriya Barua, operator of Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defence Office.
Valuables worth about TK three lakh were gutted in the fire, Satyapriya added.
