39 BNP leaders, activists of Mehendiganj sent to jail

Thirty-nine BNP leaders and activists of Mehendiganj upazila sent to jail after surrendering before the court as accused in sabotage case lodged by local AL leader and their bail prayer rejected by court on Wednesday.
On Wednesday the 39 out 0f 42 accused appearing before the district and session judge court at Barishal appealed for bail, which was rejected by Rafiqul Islam, judge of the court and the surrendered accused sent to jail on Wednesday evening, court sources said.
Adv Nurul Huq Raju, pleader of the accused, said the jailed 39 accused leaders and activists included Ziauddin Sujan, president, Giasuddin Chowdhury, secretary, Kamrul Islam Molla, organising secretary of BNP municipal unit, Syed Riazuddin Shahin Liton, president, Salauddin Piplu, secretary upazila Jubodal, Mahmud Khan, president upazila Swechchhasebok Dal, surrendered before district and session judge court on Wednesday seeking bail.
Court sources said Altaf Hossain, Chanpur union president of Swechchheasebok League, as complainant lodged a case of sabotage on November 4, 2018 against 42 BNP leaders and activists of Mehendiganj upazila with Mehendiganj police station.
In the case the complainant alleged that the accused on September 27, 2018 placing one thousands bricks on the road for making road blocks and cutting water supply pipeline at Ambikapur under Kashipur union of the upazila tried to do sabotage before the last general election.
