The 38th span of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge will be installed on Saturday at Mawa point making 5.75 kilometres visible out of total 6.15km of the main structure of the bridge.
Officials said the span will be installed on first and the second pillars at the Mawa point. Remaining three spans would be installed by December this year.
Although it is the initial span, but installing so late as its’ design and shape is different from the other spans. The parts of the span also came from China much later.
Apart from this, the structure of pillar no. 1 is completely different from other pillars. Normally 6 to 7 piles are used in other pillars. But 6 piles are used in this strong pillar. Cars and trains will enter the bridge through this pillar.
Earlier, the government extended the implementation tenure of Parma Bridge project up to 2022 as its works suffered setback due to Covid-19 pandemic and floods.
