Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in the last 24 hours ending Monday filed 382 cases against different types of vehicles including CNG-run auto-rickshaws for violating the metropolitan rules in the city. Besides, police also seized 99 vehicles including 40 CNG-run auto rickshaws during the drives, police said.
A total of 167 cases were filed on Sunday for not installing meters and for not registering the vehicles, BRTA sources said.
Mohammad Shahid Ullah, Deputy Director of BRTA told that the drive will continue against the meter-less taxies as well as the vehicles without registration.
“The combined teams of BRTA and police are on the road to take action against taxies which are run in the port city without registration,” he added.
CMP will also file more cases, if any driver or owner of CNG auto-rickshaws is found violating the rule of installing meters in his vehicle, he added. CMP and BRTA sources said the three-wheeler CNGs and some private cars owners and drivers are grossly violating the directives of CMP.
Despite the installation of meters and issuing of the notices by CMP, they are not realizing fares as per meters from the passengers. CMP from Sunday started taking actions against the drivers who have been found violating the government orders, CMP sources said.
68 held, drugs seized : Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in overnight drives arrested 68 people for different charges from city’s separate places during the last 24 hours. Police also seized 5,468 pieces of yaba tablets, one Kilogram ganza and 14-liter liquor during the drive, CMP sources said.
A total of 10 cases were filed in these connections.
