38 kg gold seized at Ctg Airport

UNB, Chittagong :Customs Intelligence officials recovered 325 pieces of gold bars weighing around 38 kilograms and arrested two young men from Shah Amanat International Airport here on Tuesday morning.The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Hossain,35, a resident of Comilla, and Rubel Khaki,33, a resident of Shariatpur district. Selim Reza, assistant commissioner of Chittagong Airport Customs, said a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, ‘BG048’, from Dubai landed at the airport around 6:30am.Customs officials challenged Rubel Khaki, a passenger of the flight, when he was coming out of a toilet at customs lounge and recovered 28 pieces of gold bar searching his body.They arrested Rubel Khaki. Later, the officials searched the toilet on suspicion and recovered 260 gold bars wrapped in polythene. Meanwhile, tipped off, the customs officials arrested another passenger of the same fight, Mohammad Hossain, and recovered 37 gold bars searching his body.The market value of the seized gold would be around 16.25 crore, the AC added.
