The elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested 37 members of the Agyan party and robber gang from Shahjahanpur, Motijheel, Mugda and Tejgaon in the capital.
In the drive, poisonous ointment and indigenous weapons were recovered from them.
RAB-3 captain Lieut. Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed gave this information to the media in a press conference organized at RAB Media Center in the capital on Sunday (August 21) at noon
He said that a team of RAB-3 arrested 37 people on Saturday night in Shahjahanpur, Motijheel, Mugda and Tejgaon ares of the capital.
The arrested persons are identified as Mizanur Rahman (21), Md. Sohail (20), Masood Rana (21), Sabbir (22), Abu Bakr Siddique (22), Shakel (20), Naeem Molla (20), Md. Salman (26), Jalal Hossain (21), Md. Shaon (22), Shahidul Islam (40), Md. Rafiq (33), Azizur (36), Saikat Mandal (19), Arif Gazi (26), Md. Johnny (18), Md. Rubel (28), Md. Afzal (18), Deen Islam (23), Md. Tuhin (18), Rabiul Awal Hriday (22), Arman (22), Sanwar Hossain (31), Md. Rubel (34), Md. Sohail (35), Md. Shanta (25), Md. Azad (35), Md. Akash (22), Naeem Khan (16), Apon Mia (20), Nazmul Hossain (28), Masum Mia (28), Md. Shanta (20), Sohail Matbar (23), Hriday (19), Sohrab (19) and Yashin Bepari (22).
During the drive, 12 mobile phone sets, three switch gears, three anti-cutters, 12 blades, one scissors, six knives, three razors, seven poisonous ointments, two poisonous sprays and eight thousand taka in cash were recovered from them.
RAB-3 captain Arif said, the initial interrogation of the arrested persons revealed that the robbers kept roaming in the bus stand and railway station areas of the capital. They target simple travelers, hold them hostage at gunpoint and try to feed them with poisonous anesthetics.
The robbers blend into the crowd, looting passengers who have passed out from the poisoned drink or the smell of the poisonous spray.
The RAB official said, capital’s Khilgaon, Malibagh level crossing, Dainik Bangla Crossing, Pirjungi Mazar Crossing, Kamalapur Battola, Motijheel Culvert Road, Hatirjheel, Shahbagh, Gulbagh, Rajuk Crossing, Paltan Mor, Golap Shah Mazar Crossing, High Court Crossing, Abdul Gani Road, in front of Maniknagar Stadium, Nandipara Bridge and Bassabo areas are the hubs of criminals.
