37 more die, 2,949 new cases

Bangladesh on Friday registered 37 deaths from coronavirus infections in span of last 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said it.
“With the new deaths, the number of fatalities reached 2,275 with death rate at 1.27 percent,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of DGHS, said in a press briefing in Dhaka.
She said that 2,949 new people have tested positive for Covid-19 during the same period.
The DGHS official said that total 13,488 samples were tested in 77 laboratories across the country in the last 24 hours.
As per the test report, the current infection rate is 21.86 percent and the total number of infections in the country is 1,78,443, she said, adding 19.43 p.c. infection rate.
Besides, 1,862 virus infected persons recovered in the last 24 hours from different hospitals and from home quarantines, the DGHS official said.
She said that total number of recoveries had reached 86,406, the current

recovery rate being 48.42 percent.
Dr. Sultana said that a total of 893 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours.
She said that 29 persons were males and eight were females among the deceased, while 12 of them were from Dhaka, 17 from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi, two from Sylhet, two from Rangpur, one from Barishal and other one were from Mymensingh division.
The officials said that among them, one was between 21-30 years old, one between 31-40, seven between 41-50, nine between 51-60, 15 between 61-70 and four were between 71-80 years old.
After reporting its first case of infection on March 8, Bangladesh remains the 17th worst affected country in the world in terms of the number of cases.
The position is one step ahead of France and one step behind Germany, according to worldometer.info.
Bangladesh registered its first death from the coronavirus on March 18.
