Bangladesh reported 37 more deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours till Wednesday, taking the death toll in the country to 746.
Of the deceased, 28 are men while nine are women.
Besides, the confirmed coronavirus cases in the country have shot to 55,140 with the detection of 2,695 infections during the period.
This is the 2nd highest daily surge in coronavirus cases in the country since the first three cases were reported on March 8. Highest 2,911 cases were recorded on Tuesday.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon
She said 470 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 11,590.
Prof Nasima said 12,510 samples were tested in 50 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 345,583 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.54 percent, she said.
The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.02 percent while the mortality rate is 1.35 percent in the country.On Tuesday, Bangladesh reported 37 deaths from coronavirus and record 2,911 cases.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 382,479 as of Wednesday morning.
Besides, it has so far infected 6,451,966 people around the world, according to Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 3,002,809 patients, 2,948,281 are in mild condition while 54,528 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 3,066,678 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
