36 individuals, organisations get BB remittance award

Thirty six individuals and organisations, including five commercial banks, on Monday got the “Bangladesh Bank Remittance Award-2018” for sending home the highest amount of remittance, investing bonds and playing a vital role to receive the remittance.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal handed over the awards at a function at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in the city.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Fazle Kabir, Senior Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Md. Ashadul Islam and Secretary of the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Md Selim Reza attended the function as special guests while BB Deputy Governor Ahmed Jamal delivered the welcome speech.
Kamal said Bangladesh has become a role model of development in the world and expatriates of the country are playing a vital role in this regard.
“Bangladeshi expatriates are the driving force of our economy. The government has already started to provide 2 percent cash incentive on remittance. We will provide more incentives in future on remittance,” he added.
The minister hoped that the total amount of remittance will be around US$20 billion in the fiscal as the government is providing all sorts of efforts to increase the inflow of remittance.
Kamal emphasised on adopting technology based skills for expanding their job market abroad to increase the inflow of remittance.
Fazle Kabir said remittance is playing a vital role to take the country’s economy to a strong position. For taking different initiatives of the government, including the central bank, the inflow of remittance is increasing day by day and it will be continued, he added.
The award has been provided under five categories. The categories are general professional, specialist professional, business and remittance receiver bank and money exchange. Twenty eight remitters received the awards under the highest remittance sender category while three Non Resident.
