Education hampered seriously: 3500 posts of Govt pry teachers vacant in Sylhet Divn

A total number of 3,469 posts of teachers including those of headmasters and assistant teachers have been lying vacant in four districts – Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamgonj and Habigonj since long resulting in a great deadlock to primary education in Sylhet Division.
 Sources said as there has been an impediment to direct recruitment for the headmaster’s post in government primary schools, the posts of headmasters have been fallen vacant day by day, resulting in an erratic situation in primary education sector which is called future generation building sector in the country.
‘Moreover, with the less number of teachers, the concerned schools have now been fallen almost to a quandered situation’ said some primary education grass-root level officers including Upazila Education Officers and Upazlia Assistant Officers on condition of anonymity.
According to Sylhet Primary Education Divisional Directorate Office, there are 4,931 government Primary schools in Sylhet Division where 29,141 posts of teachers are allotted, amongst which 4,931 posts are meant for headmasters while the rest 24,210 are earmarked for posts of assistant teachers in those schools. Of them 1,774 posts of headmasters have been lying vacant, while less in number 1,695 posts of assistant teachers have been lying vacant. In Sylhet District, 475 posts of headmaster out of total 1453 ones have been lying vacant. Besides, 553 posts of assistant teachers have been fallen vacant out of 6092 ones in the district where 47 posts of pr-primary assistant teachers post have been lying vacant against the allotted 1066 posts. In Sunamgonj District, 648 posts of headmaster have been lying vacant against the allotted 1,416 ones in government primary schools. 500 posts of assistant teachers have been lying vacant against allotted 5,573 posts of assistant teachers. 22 posts of pre-primary assistant teachers against 856 ones have fallen vacant.
In Habigonj District 333 posts of headmasters out of 1059 ones and 165 posts of assistant teachers of total 5402 posts have been lying vacant. In pre-primary assistant teachers posts, 91 ones out of total 732 have also been lying vacant.
In Moulvibazar District, 328 posts of headmasters have fallen vacant against allotted 1013 posts and 284 posts of assistant teachers have also been lying vacant against allotted 4856 ones, since long. 83 pre – primary assistant teachers out of 692 ones have been lying vacant.
While visiting the spot, this correspondent together other media workers found the authorities of many primary schools have been in an erratic condition. Most of schools have headmaster-in- charge, for which both administrative activities and class routine work have been performed by acting headmasters. Even one teacher has been seen taking class in two class rooms at a time which is horrible. Appointment of both headmaster and assistant teachers has been suspended since long.
So, year after year the number of vacant posts have been on increase owing to the retirement of teachers with completion of their service.
