A devastating fire gutted at least 35 shops worth Tk two crore in Kaharol upazila under Dinajpur district on Friday , police said.
According to the locals, the fire broke out at around 2.00am on Friday at Joynand Bazaar, one of largest market in Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur. Locals said the flame spread rapidly and engulfed the surrounding area. As locals noticed it in the middle of night, they started to douse the fire.
Hearing the information the firefighters of three units including Pirganj of Thakurgaon, Bochaganj and Dinajpur Sadar upazila rushed to the spot at around 3.00am on Friday and doused the fire after an hour.
But the fire burnt 35 shops and goods worth Tk.2 crores .
The cause of the fire could not be known.
Amrita Lal Roy, garment trader of the area said that the fire burnt goods worth Tk.40 lakhs. There were different shops including garments, drug shops, tailors and cosmetics shops as well.
Mehfuz Tanzi station officer of Bochaganj (Setabgonj) Fire Brigade Station in Dinajpur said that the fire was devastating and the cause of the fire is unknown to them. The fire spread fast due to prolong dry spell in the area, he added.
